27 Mar How to get into The Times without trying
My client got a mention in The Times this week, and I nearly missed it – because I had no idea it was happening! It was a lovely surprise as I did it without trying.
On the face of it, that’s what it felt like, but actually, ending up in The Times with zero effort is the culmination of two years’ worth of consistent PR outreach.
Sorry! I know that in a world where everyone wants fast results, sprints and instant wins, hearing that something took two years of effort is a bit of a body blow.
But here’s the thing…all big brands reach out to the media regularly. It’s the best and only way to build your reputation – unless you go viral overnight.
The client in question is an influencer marketing platform with a head office in France. Nobody had heard of them when I first contacted the UK press, but gradually, I secured pieces of coverage in trade press. Then I got them in The Mirror and then, Marketing Week – one of their target titles, so a big win.
So, when The Times ran a story about micro-influencers this week, they used my client’s data because I’d put them front of mind.
Don’t have the time?
I know it’s hard to find the time to do PR when you’re busy running a business, but honestly, you don’t need to do more than 15 minutes a day. It’s much easier than managing an Instagram account, it’s cheaper than running ads, and it builds trust and credibility like nothing else.
Product sellers, I’ve got something for you…
If you’re a product seller, I’d love to invite you to join me for a 4-week PR Bootcamp starting April 20th. You’ll learn everything you need to know to get your products featured, plus I will edit your pitch and introduce you to a working journalist.
Earlybird tickets are £349, and I’ll leave you with a quote from last year’s cohort – “The best course I’ve ever done!”
